Christmas is a time for celebrating moments that bring us joy and reminds us of the importance of the connections that fill our lives with meaning. A simple gift can remind a resident that they are a valued part of the community and is a sign that someone cares. This year, with your support, we are bringing gifts to a number of residents at Southern Cross Care Villa Pelletier home.

Matina, age 78

Martina’s life has been a beautiful blend of creativity, skill, and a deep connection to nature. Born in Austria, she carries the spirit of craftsmanship and artistry in everything she does. A lover of gardening, she takes great pride in growing her own mushrooms, nurturing them with care and patience. Her hands are equally skilled with art and craft, whether it’s knitting, crocheting, or making her own clothes—each project reflecting her creative spirit and attention to detail. This Christmas, Martina wishes for gifts that reflect her love for creativity and colour. She would be delighted with a set of colouring pencils and books to spark her imagination. To make her room even more inviting, she dreams of having fresh flowers to fill it with beauty and fragrance.

Sin, age 70

Sin’s life has been one of rich cultural heritage and quiet contentment. Born on Christmas Island and now a dual citizen of Singapore and Australia, Sin has embraced the beauty of diverse worlds. Though married, Sin has always enjoyed the peaceful solitude that allows for reflection and relaxation. While there are no children of his own, Sin has welcomed stepchildren into his life, creating a family dynamic built on love and respect. In his downtime, Sin enjoys the comfort of watching TV, especially old cop shows like Matlock, where the timeless plots and characters provide both entertainment and a sense of nostalgia. This Christmas, Sin’s wish is simple yet thoughtful. He would love a few comfortable T-shirts and thong sandals, which are perfect for enjoying the warmth of the Australian sun.

Rodney, age 73

Rodney is a man whose life has been defined by service, family, and a love for the good things in life. Married with two sons, he has always been a devoted husband and father, offering guidance, love, and wisdom in equal measure. Rodney’s time in the forces taught him discipline and dedication, qualities he carried into his career as a cook, where he found joy in creating delicious meals and bringing people together over great food. This Christmas, Rodney’s wish is one of simple indulgence—a fruit basket and a hamper filled with chocolates. It’s the perfect combination to satisfy his sweet tooth and celebrate the holiday season in his own warm, thoughtful way.

Chris, age 73

At 73, Chris’s life has been one of change and independence. Born and raised in Tasmania, he has lived through the highs and lows that come with experience. Having been married and divorced three times, Chris knows the complexities of relationships, but his strength lies in moving forward, carving out a life for himself. Chris worked as a metal coordinator in the transport industry, a career that brought both challenge and satisfaction. His passion for sports, particularly Essendon football club and cricket, keeps him engaged, and he’s always ready to follow the news and indulge in a bit of friendly banter. This Christmas, Chris’s wish is practical and comfortable—shorts and slides.

Stefan, age 82

Stefan’s life has been shaped by hard work and rich cultural roots. Born in Macedonia and later calling Subiaco home, he spent many years working in the coal mines, where grit and determination were his daily companions. Though he never married, Stefan was surrounded by family, with three sisters and a late brother who were always close to his heart.

In his quieter moments, Stefan enjoys the simple pleasures of life. Whether it’s watching a good AFL or soccer match, observing the world around him, or enjoying a peaceful coffee, he finds joy in the small details. His love for people-watching is matched only by his appreciation for life's little indulgences. For Christmas, Stefan’s wish is a mix of comfort and flavour—a pack of white singlets, a hamper filled with olives, spicy sausage, chili cheese, and chocolates.

Singlets, now kindly gifted.
